This is one of my first songs of Tommy Emmanuel that I learned to play. I would like to say, it's not that hard of a song to learn, if you work it out step by step that is. However, getting where Tommy is and how faultless he plays Those Who Wait that takes work and time.
I don't play Those Who Wait that often because I think this song is so beautiful that if I were to do a bad performance it would not do the song justice. And I would not want to ruin it for those who listen. So I would not perform Those Who Wait untill I feel that I myself have put in the practise and time in the song and I feel confident that I could play it without mistake. Everyone gets rusty.
Now if you like to learn Tommy Emmanuel's Those Who Wait. You first need to tune you're guitar to Drop D Tuning. When that is done, you can choose to either start to learn this song with the guitar pick like Tommy plays. Or you can go fingerstyle. Now there is one small part in this song about 2:20 min into it that you would need a guitar pick to get the right sound. But that's about it. So I started out playing without the plectrum at first and then later started to learn it all over again with the plectrum. I think that if you have plenty of plectrum time then you should start out with the plectrum. Otherwise it might be easier for you to do like I did. But it's up to you.
