You may have asked yourself the question what guitar should I buy. Whether you’re a parent wondering what guitar you should buy to you’re child. Or simply you’re thinking of buying one for yourself or giving one to someone as a gift. The question what guitar should I buy, is very common.
Second question would be, and how much should I pay for it?
Well I always recommend for someone starting out. Go and buy a classical guitar. That’s the kind that have nylon strings and don’t cost to much either. Of course there are always expensive options when it comes to guitars. But you really should think about one thing before you go spend heaps of money on a guitar. That’s if you’re an parent, there is the possibility of loss of interest.
And I don’t think you would want all that hard earned money sitting in the closet or end up in the garage. The same goes for you, if you’re buying it for yourself. However that extra money you put in the guitar may help you keep motivated and put of those thoughts of giving up playing because it’s wasn’t as easy as you expected.
But there are so many makes of guitars to choose from, which one should I choose? Personally I recommend you go an buy a Yamaha. Simply because you get a very good guitar for you’re money. You get a classical Yamaha C40 guitar for around $100 and the CG101 for under $200. And that’s what I think you should pay. There are guitars that have electric pickups that cost more, which allows you to plug the guitar into an amplifier. But for starters I don’t think that’s of great importance. Because you can fit an pickup to you’re existing guitar later if you like.
There are also different sizes out there. Go with the full size. The bigger the guitar, the more sound you get. Something not many people do is to buy an second hand guitar. And that’s not a bad idea. If you’re in luck, you could find someone that have an old guitar sitting in the garage and willing to sell it for a few dollars. Jimi Hendrix bought his first guitar for $5 from a friend of his fathers and he did ok. Guitars tend to get better with age also. The older the guitar the better the sound. That may sound strange, but the more you play the guitar the better it gets. At least that’s what people say.
