Struttin' And Some Johnny Cash - Personal Jesus
This is a nice video taken before one of Tommy Emmanuels gigs in Helix, Dublin from 2010. Tommy Emmanuel did some photos, signed some guitars. And for those unfortunate that didn't have their guitar with them to the show also got some autograhps. We get to see Tommy Emmanuel play Jerry Reed's song Struttin' and a little bit of the tune Personal Jesus by Johnny Cash.
The guitar that Tommy is using here is not his own Maton that he usually use, it's one of the guitars that Tommy signed an Takamine EN 25-C acoustic guitar.
I'm impressed by Tommy to be able to play Jerry Reed's Struttin' so good without any "warmup" and also on a different guitar that he's not even familliar with. Either the Maton and Takamine acoustic guitars are much alike or what we see here is the 50 years of guitar playing that have made Tommy comfortable playing different guitars.
I have played some Struttin' myself now, it still needs a lot of work thought but boy do you're pinky finger get a workout playing Struttin'. Tommy in the video explains that he worked out the song by listening to the recordings of Jerry Reed. Youtube sure makes things more easy for us wanting to learn new songs now. Can't imagine how hard it would be to try and work out Struttin' from only a recording.
