Rockabilly Gretsch Country Gentleman Electric Guitar
Hi folks,
The song Windy and Warm is so much fun to play. I have been playing Windy and Warm myself for about 2 years now I think. It's one of them songs that never grow old, you can play around with it all day.
Now this video caught my eye not because it's Tommy Emmanuel playing Windy and Warm. It's because in this video we get to see Tommy Emmanuel play on a "Rockabilly" Gretsch Gentleman Electric Guitar.
The video is taken from one of Tommy Emmanuels performances at the CAAS (Chet Atkins Appreciation Society) convention in 2001. So this is 10 years ago now. And I can see how the song Windy and Warm have changed a bit over the years if you know what I mean. It still sounds great and that Gretsch Electric Guitar seems to sound very well also.
We would normally expect Tommy Emmanuel to play on his Maton Acoustic Electric Guitar. But I guess because this is the CAAS convertion. And Chet Atkins used a Gretsch Electric Guitar in his recordings and performances, that's the reason we see Tommy Emmanuel play the Gretsch here this time.

I don't have a Gretsch Electric Guitar but I can see how the Gretsch works well with fingerpicking because the Gretsch Electric Guitar use these flat pickups. I find that if I try and play with the thumbpick on my Fender Stratocaster I tend to catch the pickups with my pick and that's annoying.
Maybe it's a fault on my side that makes it so and it's something that I can improve if I were to work at it. It's nothing that bothers me much because I don't play much with the thumbpick on the Electric. If I play fingerstyle I usually have the Acoustic Guitar. But I think that the Gretsch pickups are better made that way. Chet Atkins used the Gretsch and it worked for him.
